Jacob Mousseau here, Founder and CEO of Wounded Woodworkers. Today, I’m sharing my journey from battlefield to workshop—a path of challenges, healing, and rediscovered purpose. It’s a story of how I found therapy in woodworking and became laser-focused on crafting hope for fellow veterans.

When One Chapter Ends, Another Begins

After nearly a decade in the Army and three overseas tours, my abrupt transition to civilian life hit hard. Like many veterans, I struggled to find my footing, grappling with combat pain that seemed to have no outlet. But sometimes, the end of one road reveals an unexpected path forward.

With my military severance, I took a leap of faith. I set up a workshop, bought some tools, and discovered that woodworking wasn’t just a hobby; it was my therapy. In those early days, I never imagined that this form of personal healing would evolve into a mission to help others.

Pivoting with Purpose, Etching a New Mission

Initially, I opened my workshop to fellow wounded warriors. We’d craft, talk, and heal together. It was incredible until an accident reminded me of the complexities of peer support. That’s when I pivoted to laser engraving, etching a new mission after my military service.

This new direction allowed me to create meaningful pieces while ensuring safety. By engraving photos, I found a way to transform memories into tangible keepsakes: pieces that resonate deeply with those who receive them. It was more than just a business; it was a way to continue serving, to craft hope for those who needed it most.

More Than Just Wood and Lasers, Crafting Hope

One of my most cherished projects is this engraved portrait of Hunter, our beloved German Shepherd we lost to cancer last September. It’s not just wood and laser marks; it’s a piece of our hearts, a lasting memory of loyalty and love.
