The Reality of Deployment for Service Members and Families
Every year, National Day of the Deployed is a reminder of the incredible strength within our military community. Deployment brings a mix of emotions and challenges for everyone involved. There are the long stretches of uncertainty, the late nights waiting for a call, the routines that shift every time orders change, and the quiet moments where the reality of distance sits a little heavier.
But behind every deployment is a family doing their best to hold everything together. They take care of the home, manage the day to day, support their kids through the ups and downs, and keep showing up even when Murphy’s Law seems determined to test them. Their resilience is powerful, and it deserves to be recognized as much as the sacrifice of those who are deployed.
Why We Wear Red for the Deployed
This is also why our community continues to wear red on Fridays. R.E.D. stands for Remember Everyone Deployed. It is a simple act with a meaningful message. Wearing red is a way to pause, reflect, and stand in solidarity with the families who are navigating the distance and the service members who cannot be home right now. It is a reminder that they are not forgotten.

Supporting Families While Loved Ones Are Deployed
Here on Spouse-ly, we see the impact deployment has on both sides. We hear stories from spouses who are raising little ones solo. We meet makers who started their businesses while their partner was deployed because creativity became a place to cope or to stay grounded. We see the kids who miss their parent and find comfort in routines, journals, or small keepsakes that remind them that love is still present, even when someone is far away.
