Description
I share about my story. My own darkness within, but also that of my late husband.
This is story of grief. Grief of a life I had planned to have. Grief of a healthy marriage. Grief of a literal life altogether. The toll addiction places on personal and professional life, in addition to the closure that can come with time.
My hope is that this book leaves you with a new perspective on addiction and forgiveness, and some authenticity when it comes to the mental health of even the happiest of people.
Maybe it’ll bring the push you need to make a change in your own life, or showing more empathy towards those that surround you. I hope this book, a piece of my story, makes an impact in your life for the better.

When I finished this book I spent days thinking about it.
Melissa covers addiction, relationship struggles, grief, and ultimately forgiveness by sharing her story of love and loss. It is a story that will stick with you long after reading the final page.
This is such an important often untold story that needs to be out there. The darkness of military life (and the trauma that lurks there) isn’t talked about enough, and getting an experience like hers helps us better understand where we can do better, not just by letting our loved ones know how much they mean to us and to making time for them, but also how to be more understanding to the people that are caught in the darkness, to better understand WHY they may be doing what they’re doing so we can know how to support them and relate to them.

Highly recommend reading Melissa’s book, it was not easy for her to share her story with the world but her strength and courage to keep pushing forward is a true inspiration. She is helping so many others by sharing her story.

Reading this brought up a mix of emotions. To see and feel the vulnerability that Melissa discussed throughout the book is truly inspiring. She is a truly strong woman, and the books shows it. The book is nothing short of amazing, heart breaking, and eye opening.
