Mother of pearl is an iridescent layer of nacre deposited on the inside of certain mollusk shells, and is also known as nacre.  The iridescent colors of mother of pearl are symbolic of the moon, and its reflective properties are said to represent the reflective qualities of the soul and the ever-changing nature of life.
