The author recounts how a TV commercial sparked an interest in flying which led to a 25-year career in the U.S. military, flying helicopters for the U.S. Army and U.S. Coast Guard. He shares in vivid detail several heart-pounding missions and other significant events that have influenced the course of his life. The author also shares his amazing journey to a saving faith in the ultimate Rescuer.

Darcy Guyant was born and raised in central Wisconsin. During his senior year of high school, he discovered an interest in flying and earned an FAA Private Pilot license. After high school, Darcy was accepted into the U.S. Army’s “High School to Flight School” program, graduating from Army helicopter flight training at Fort Rucker, Alabama, on December 1^st, 1981, at the age of 19. He flew the UH-1H “Huey” for seven years, serving in the Republic of Korea and at Fort Rucker, AL, as an instructor pilot. Darcy earned a Bachelor of Aeronautics degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University while serving on active duty. In 1987, Darcy received a direct commission into the U.S. Coast Guard, beginning an 18-year career as a Coast Guard officer and helicopter pilot. During his flying career, he logged over 6250 hours of flight time, saving and assisting 100s of lives.

Darcy and his wife now live near Olympia, WA. They have two children, and one lovely granddaughter. Darcy is active in the church, particularly in children’s ministry, and volunteers daily at a public school, assisting teachers and students. Darcy has written several children’s books. He is also involved in raising awareness of aviation careers among young people though speaking events and volunteer involvement with advocacy organizations.
